East Africa: EA Should Tap Into World Cup

In July 2005, the mantle of organising the Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) World Cup was passed on to South Africa.

For the very first time in the history of this tournament, Africa will get the chance to showcase what it has got to offer.

At about the same time, in these very pages, I looked at how our region could benefit from 2010. However, at that time, I only made my analysis from the tourism point of view.

Fast forward to February 2007. Tourism is still high on what we should offer to those who are planning to come to Africa.

But picture this in the year 2010; England is preparing for the World Cup. The Sun newspaper, with a circulation figure of over three million copies is carrying a headline that reads thus; "Girls Line Up for King Theo."
